Barbara Shaw (Ed.D., M.Sc., M.Ed., B.Ed.(Hons.)) Head Teacher 

Barbara has over 25 years experience as a Head Teacher and teacher in early years education. During this time she has been involved in providing a quality education for young children, liaising closely with the parents, other settings and outside agencies. She has been a registered nursery inspector and a qualified reading recovery teacher. She has been actively involved in implementing inclusion since the 1980’s and having gained two masters degrees went on to complete her Doctorate in Education in 2006, which included a module on early year’s education.

Elizabeth Bottomley (BTEC Childhood studies, Nursery Nurse) Deputy Head Teacher

Elizabeth has worked at the nursery for some 13 years and has joined Welbeck Nursery as a qualified nursery nurse holding the National Certificate in Childhood Studies. Elizabeth decided after the birth of her eldest child to develop her career in childcare and has worked as a Nanny before joining the original nursery, Jumbo. Her extensive experience is invaluable and she helps Welbeck nursery to retain the traditions and qualities that made Jumbo nursery a very popular choice with parents.

Heidi Feichtinger Special Educational Needs Nursery Nurse and Inclusion Co-ordinator (NNEB, Certificate of Higher Education ASD ) 

Heidi qualified as a nursery nurse (NNEB) in 1989 and has worked in a variety of early years settings. She has spent the last 12 years teaching children with special educational needs and she has a special interest in working with children who have speech, language and communication difficulties. In 2004 she completed a 2 year distance learning programme with Birmingham University and obtained a certificate of higher education in Autistic Spectrum Disorders. She has received training in Intensive Interaction and has experience is using PECS, TEACCH, Makaton and British Sign Language. She firmly believes that good quality early intervention has positive long lasting benefits for both learning potential and a child’s self esteem and confidence.

Roz Goodwin - Chartered Educational Psychologist

BSc Hons (Psych), PGCE,  MSc (Ed Psych)

Roz has been an Educational Psychologist (EP) for two Local Educational Authorities. She therefore has extensive experience supporting children, their parents and staff within a range of preschool and nursery settings, as well as at home. Her role very much involves linking with key adults in a child's life (parents, carers, preschool or nursery staff etc) to help address needs spanning a range of areas including: learning, language, physical and social interaction skills.  Input can involve observing children, discussing their progress with those who know them best and (when agreed as helpful) completing some more focused assessment. Information gathered through each of these is used to jointly develop, monitor programmes of support.

All staff also receive continuous professional development and training.
