Children with Additional Needs

We are also able to provide a flexible and specialist curriculum for those children who may need extra support in order to flourish alongside their mainstream peers. This includes children with speech, language and communication difficulties as well as those with learning, motor and sensory needs.
In addition to our teachers and assistants, our specialist team includes speech and language therapists; occupational therapists; therapy assistants and where necessary psychologists, who work jointly to plan and meet our children’s individual needs. Our unique model provides different levels of support and specialist input according to a child’s individual needs - from full mainstream integration to intensive individual intervention and within small groups.
Inclusion can occur in all activities and at all levels according to an individual child’s needs and abilities.
We draw from a portfolio of differing strategies and approaches to help our children.
Our Total Communication Curriculum includes the use of –
Augmentative communication systems e.g. symbols, signs or gesture
Visual approaches to learning and communication
Structured teaching
Sensory programmes
Specialist speech and language therapy programmes
Specialist motor programmes
Behaviour support plans
Each child requiring additional support will have a specifically designed Individual Education Plan (IEP) where targets and strategies are embedded throughout the curriculum. Progress is monitored on a daily basis and targets are renewed at the end of each term in partnership with parents.
Each child will be allocated a key person who will be responsible for updating parents on their child’s individual progress.
Where a child requires individual therapy this will be provided within the nursery with the aim of bridging this into the group setting.
