Admissions & Prospectus

Mainstream Children

Welbeck Nursery is an independent inclusive nursery that caters for up to 40 children aged 2 ½  – 5 years of age with 12 of those places available for 2 year olds and a maximum of 18 places for children who require a more specialised provision and support.  The nursery operates from 9.00 to 12.00 each day during term time.

Admissions for mainstream places follow procedures whereby parents/ carers are required to fill in an application form.  Completion of this application does not guarantee the offer of a nursery place. As the demand for places sometimes exceeds the number of places available we often have a waiting list.  We contact parents at the earliest opportunity when a place becomes available.  Places are usually allocated on the basis of the date of application – those applying earliest being allocated places before those who apply later. However this is not always possible because of the set number of places for those under three and staffing rations.  Priority is also given to siblings of pupils already attending the nursery.

Children with Additional Needs

Children who will benefit from the more specialised provision that the nursery is able to offer will include children with:

·       Motor impairment  and sensory integration issues

·       General developmental delay

·       Mixed specific learning difficulties

·       Social communication difficulties

Admission Procedures for Children with Additional Needs

Welbeck Nursery offers an open referral system.  Parents are invited to complete an application form indicating their interest in a possible placement for their child.

When and if the appropriate class has a vacancy then the nursery Special Needs Co-coordinator (SENCo) will consider the application and whether we have enough background information to offer a place.  At this time we will ask parents for any recent professional reports and invite them and their child into the nursery for an informal visit.

If the admissions panel thinks that more in-depth information is required, then parents will be offered an informal assessment conducted by a relevant professional from Eagle House Group Welbeck SENCo.  We would aim to agree an appointment for this assessment within two weeks.

Once the relevant information has been gathered and considered by the appointments panel the Head Teacher of Welbeck Nursery will inform the parents of the admission panel’s decision either in writing or by phone within an additional two weeks.

Children may be admitted to the nursery initially for a trial period of up to two months.  If significant or challenging behaviour or significant difficulties are identified which may require additional support or resources there may be a need for additional placement costs.  If this is the case, these will be calculated on an individual basis and details of any additional costs clearly set out.

In assessing a child for a place at Welbeck Nursery we aim to ensure that we can fully meet their holistic needs and those of the other children within the setting.

Due to the nature of the building, staffing and resources and associated health and safety issues we may not be able to meet the needs of children with profound and multiple learning difficulties and children who need mobility aids such as standing frames and wheelchairs.

We ask all parents/carers to notify us of any change of address or telephone number or if a place is no longer required.

Once a place is offered parents/carers are asked to send the required deposit in order to secure the place.  Fees are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
